FAQ

Plumbing: common questions

Does plumbing work need a licensed plumber in Florida?

Yes. Florida requires plumbing work to be done by a licensed plumbing contractor. USA Home Repairs is a referral and scheduling service: we match you with a licensed plumbing contractor near you, and that contractor does the work.

Which areas do you cover for plumbing?

Plumbing service in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. Our other services reach further, but plumbing is only offered in these three counties.

Do I need a permit to replace a water heater or re-pipe the house?

Usually, yes. Water-heater replacements and re-pipes generally need a permit from your city or county building department, and the licensed plumbing contractor pulls it.

How can I tell if I have a slab leak?

Warm spots on the floor, the sound of running water with everything off, a water bill that jumps, or a meter that keeps moving when no water is in use. If the meter moves with every fixture off, have it traced before the water damages the flooring and the slab.

My house has polybutylene pipe. Does it need replacing?

Polybutylene is grey plastic supply pipe found in many homes built from the late 1970s into the 1990s, and it can fail without warning as it ages. Some insurers ask about it. A plumbing contractor can confirm what you have and give you a free estimate for a re-pipe.
